Isabella & Linzie Hunter

OK so here is my poster and my typeface... This was a really interesting project for me because with my font I had a completely different idea and style in my head before I had to use the aesthetics of the artist Linzie Hunter. She has a really kind of sketchy/cut-out feel to her work so that is what I was trying to do with the poster. She creates a lot of interest in her work by using a lot of contrasting colors and so that is what I was trying to do in my piece with the more warm colored shapes of some of the background type areas. There are a few things that I have already noticed that needs a little bit of work before I get the poster printed but hopefully you can give me some good feedback also. Oh I haven't finished getting my type vectorized but I'll try and get it done by tonight. Hey thanks guys and I hope you enjoy!

J.J. & Linzie Hunter

So the designer that I have to create a similar aesthetic style of, is Linzie Hunter. Here is some of here work, or at least a piece that I am kind of basing my poster off of.

I think that a lot more of mine is going to change just so that I am only creating a feel for the style of Linzie Hunter yet still have a piece that is truly mine. Also I am trying to make the word "Isabella" the focal point but think I am going to have problems because the style I am using is very busy and can sometimes be chaotic.

I don't have much done on it as you can see but I am going to have a bunch of different words surrounding "Isabella" but pushed back in opacity so that the title is still the focus and I am going to add in a lot more lines and decorations with some being the strong contrasting colors which is a prevalent feature in Linzie's work.

Around Campus

So I havent been able to post something in a few days due to technical and other difficulties so anyway I decided to do something a little more than just taking photos like I have been doing. I have been trying to focus on doing something with architecture because that is what I am going to be focusing on in my final part of this project but I was walking by this emergency call post thing and just loved the way that the text fit in it and also the sharp diagonal angles where one would press the button. Now it is pretty simple but I was experimenting with some things to do for my the final part dealing with dynamic objects, lines, or text so here is the experiment and I hope you all like!

Type and Architecture

So I think that I have finally come to a conclusion on what I am want time to do for the final part of this project. I am pretty sure that I still want to try and make a cool possible kinetic type piece like before but instead of it being like the geometric graffiti I really like I think that I am going to do it more focused on the type and the architecture found in Cedar City.

OK now I know that we don't really have a super diverse design in architecture but there really are some nice and interesting old buildings here. This happens to be one the Leavitt Group Building, aka The Old Hospital. Anyway I am going to try try to adapt the next few post into some art which is what I am going to focus on. Thanks all!

Best Homework Excuse Ever!

Ok so I think that I am back in the game... meaning I think that my computer works and I think I have gotten everything squared away so I can start posting again. Anyway for those who didnt know my apartment last week had a fire and that is why I havent posted in a few days. So here is a funny photo for you all of my apartment and the best homework excuse ever! Ok on a more serious note here are some photos of what the apartment actually looked like after the fire and why I havent been at school or participating in the blog.

Well it doesnt have much to do with typography by I thought that it would look cool and it is something that has, is and will influence me in life and art and everything else probably haha.
... oh and by the way no animals nor people were hurt in the fire so dont worry about what I wrote in the wall... It was a joke haha!

Sign Posting

So I am thinking for my project I want to make a more kinetic type of illustration with type but then once again in the back of my mind I've been really wanting to work some more with some geometric fine art. At the same time though I really want to focus more on including a feeling that is Cedar City and that proves a little difficult. Anyways I am just starting out probably by observing type in the street in normal day circumstances.

Back to My Favorite Stuff!

So last semester I participated in a blog like this for our Branding Class and really enjoyed it! I based my last project all on different fine art graffiti like an urban artist I like. His street name is Delta and he does really cool geometric stuff like this photo below.

Anyway I just have not been able to get out of the groove of loving his work (which isn't a bad thing haha) so I decided to kind of mimic his art again but mix it with some interesting Cedar City architecture and also with some more quotes I like.

Oh the quote again comes from the book "The Traveler's Gift" by Andy Andrews. Enjoy!

Caution... Important Quote!

OK OK maybe its not the most important quote but for a long time I have been wanting to make a book that has a bunch of inspirational type quotes that I like and do them in a cool designed way. I don't really think that is what I am going to end up doing with this project and will probably not make the book for a long while but that doesn't mean that these things don't influence my life. Anyway I saw this sign (or one just like it) on the doors of the science building while walking home. It definitely was not the actual typeface that caught my attention but the whole design itself, well actually mostly the color haha. And I think that sometimes that has to be a purpose in typography, not as much as its aesthetics as its legibility of clearness. So I thought of it as an interesting thing that struck me and I mixed it with a quote from "The Traveler's Gift" by Andy Andrews. Hope you all like it!
