Cami - Type Design

My designer is Petar Pavlov. His type posters all interact with the environment in one way or another and describe what the image is. These are a couple of his posters...

Here are a few of my sketches. I have played around with the word Sheboygan ( which is an old fishing harbor type town) that looks like water on a wet dock, or splashed up on the side of a boat.

This is what I have played around with so far. I will be adding my word Sheboygan in my typeface.

J.J. & Linzie Hunter

So the designer that I have to create a similar aesthetic style of, is Linzie Hunter. Here is some of here work, or at least a piece that I am kind of basing my poster off of.

I think that a lot more of mine is going to change just so that I am only creating a feel for the style of Linzie Hunter yet still have a piece that is truly mine. Also I am trying to make the word "Isabella" the focal point but think I am going to have problems because the style I am using is very busy and can sometimes be chaotic.

I don't have much done on it as you can see but I am going to have a bunch of different words surrounding "Isabella" but pushed back in opacity so that the title is still the focus and I am going to add in a lot more lines and decorations with some being the strong contrasting colors which is a prevalent feature in Linzie's work.

Devon

Mona Lisa Font & Adolfo Correa

I find Adolfo's style to be extreme visual confetti created around a font. He did a poster below where he declared his love for Helvetica. Next to the Helvetica poster, is his most famous "confetti font" with I love you. So I thought it would be fun to combine his love for font, and his love confetti with my Mona Lisa. I tried to use his aesthetic, with my font's aesthetic.... If I pulled it off is up to the viewer. Below is the FREE TIBET confetti design. I am not a fan of his style, I would not think Jay is a large fan either. So the design I came up with, departs from my normal style. In that way I am impressed, because looking at it... It feels like someone elses work.
The poster below is the combination of my Mona Lisa font, and it's aesthetic.... mixed with my take on Adolfo Correa's aesthetic style. I started with a 18x24 canvas. I studied Di Vinci's work, he is famous for unfinished work. I tried to combine that unfinished Di Vinci style with the landscape with atmospheric perspective found behind Mona Lisa herself. Once painted, I used different styles to make it look older, cracked, and weathered. Then I designed the "Confetti", in photo shop, and placed it ontop of a photo of my landscape. Then taking a Mask of my "Mona Lisa" font, I cut out the negative, leaving the landscape in place of the fill on my font. I wanted my take of Adolfo to be modern and relevant with todays popular designs. I have the landscape, and the font, to tie the poster to the renaissance.

Chris

Here here are some of Marcou's work

Marcou does some amazing ink drawings. The idea that I have is that I am going to use a print that I have from Litho class. Also the poster is going to promote some clothing company called Shady Robot. Here is what I have.

christina: type-poster

My designer is Sumeco, a.k.a. Theo Aartsma. He is a young designer/illustrator from Holland. These are examples of his very sophisticated 3D typography illustrations he's been recognized for doing.

Here are my sketches...I'm facing a challenge with the 3D rendering of my typeface. I'd like to go with style of the bottom right image of Sumeco's examples I posted above. My word was 'Southern Belle'. I would like to make the stylized type resemble lace...so there would be a floralistic pattern in the typeface.

My typeface isn't complete & would have more ornamental design. I'd keep the plain background & the center focus of the typography with center alignment unless there are mult. words.

Some of the words I came up with to have on the poster are:
belle, GRITS (girls raised in the south),belle queen, debutante....what do you think?

This is my hand-drawn type for the final poster!
Next: vectorization.

Top: vectored type for poster
Bottom: progression of 3D rendering

A new direction:
here is another beautiful example of sumeco's typography

I'm going to create a candle lit effect like this one with the same type I've created.

Craig Ward & Honky Tonk

my designer is craig ward. these are some images from him:

i find his style very fascinating and i believe even similar to mine in certain ways. he obviously takes a 'hands-on' approach when appropriate and i love to do the same.
more importantly, i think the title of his personal website says it all: words are pictures. that is what i have been drawing the most inspiration from for this project.

i definitely get my best ideas in the shower.

pondering this assignment in the morning today, i was considering the phrase 'words are pictures' and kept approaching the last image of his i posted (fire letters).

the typeface i designed was based on the theme 'honky tonk' and my alphabet looks like these letters:

(the actual alphabet is not completely finished and therefore not ready for you judgers.)

so, here is my shower idea:

+

+

honky tonk song lyrics

=

pure magic.

what say you?

i am debating- should i reuse the song lyrics i originally picked (since we are not redoing those first posters...) or pick lyrics that go well with the first?

and is that a good idea or does it suck?

Shannon Coughlin

so my designer is Andre Roquette he use a lot of hard lines and gradients this is what I have so far
