Chris

Here here are some of Marcou's work

Marcou does some amazing ink drawings. The idea that I have is that I am going to use a print that I have from Litho class. Also the poster is going to promote some clothing company called Shady Robot. Here is what I have.

christina: type-poster

My designer is Sumeco, a.k.a. Theo Aartsma. He is a young designer/illustrator from Holland. These are examples of his very sophisticated 3D typography illustrations he's been recognized for doing.

Here are my sketches...I'm facing a challenge with the 3D rendering of my typeface. I'd like to go with style of the bottom right image of Sumeco's examples I posted above. My word was 'Southern Belle'. I would like to make the stylized type resemble lace...so there would be a floralistic pattern in the typeface.

My typeface isn't complete & would have more ornamental design. I'd keep the plain background & the center focus of the typography with center alignment unless there are mult. words.

Some of the words I came up with to have on the poster are:
belle, GRITS (girls raised in the south),belle queen, debutante....what do you think?

This is my hand-drawn type for the final poster!
Next: vectorization.

Top: vectored type for poster
Bottom: progression of 3D rendering

A new direction:
here is another beautiful example of sumeco's typography

I'm going to create a candle lit effect like this one with the same type I've created.

Craig Ward & Honky Tonk

my designer is craig ward. these are some images from him:

i find his style very fascinating and i believe even similar to mine in certain ways. he obviously takes a 'hands-on' approach when appropriate and i love to do the same.
more importantly, i think the title of his personal website says it all: words are pictures. that is what i have been drawing the most inspiration from for this project.

i definitely get my best ideas in the shower.

pondering this assignment in the morning today, i was considering the phrase 'words are pictures' and kept approaching the last image of his i posted (fire letters).

the typeface i designed was based on the theme 'honky tonk' and my alphabet looks like these letters:

(the actual alphabet is not completely finished and therefore not ready for you judgers.)

so, here is my shower idea:

+

+

honky tonk song lyrics

=

pure magic.

what say you?

i am debating- should i reuse the song lyrics i originally picked (since we are not redoing those first posters...) or pick lyrics that go well with the first?

and is that a good idea or does it suck?

Shannon Coughlin

so my designer is Andre Roquette he use a lot of hard lines and gradients this is what I have so far

Dan Gill Poster Design

Ok peeps, here's a picture of some of my designers work. My designer is Alex Trochut. In his work the type and illustration are closely integrated. There's also a bold use of color and the illusion of depth and three dimensionality.

Ok here's the design that I've been working on. I used the phrase, "Go forth and stake your claim." to be in keeping with the whole pioneer theme I have. In my designer's work there are a lot of amorphous abstract shapes so I'm thinking about integrating some of those as well.

Peace out,
Dan Gill

In Progress Poster

Guess which one is mine...okay okay i'll tell you...its the bottom. As you can see its still in the drawing stage and it really looks nothing like the typeface that i made because i had to manipulate it to look like the guys style. I have Rodrigo Francisco for my graphic designer and his typefaces are 3-d ish but as you can see he goes through a process and i am in the process of making it a vector and attempting at making it 3-d. So its not done but thats the basic idea. Oh and i was going to say "baubles & bangles" but the ratio for the poster would look funny, so now its just baubles, which by the way are " virtually worthless decorative objects."

This is Micah Lidberg's work.

I know this has no type on it right now...please don't slaughter me. I think you've seen my typeface, I just didn't feel like it was ready to put on the poster. In process I think I've figured out a better way to refine the lines, so I guess this turned into more of a sketch. But the concept is an illustrated imaginative style and I'm hoping to achieve the clean lines lidberg uses in his work, both in the artwork and the letterforms. ideas? thoughts?
My designer is Alex Beltechi. He does some amazing work. He works with 3d programs to achieve his work. Im using this as my main inspiration but i am trying to incorporate a couple of his other works.

Jade Gelskey: Comp for Poster

Jade Gelskey

Illustrator: Seb Lester
Type Face Created by Me: "Couch Potato"

Here is my typeface:

So to start off the image that Jay gave me of Seb Lesters work was a little flourishy (see inside the scan where I pasted it) for what my font is all about. Couch potato's are lazy and not considered beautiful...which is what the example I received was.

I decided to do a little research and came up with a few that seemed to meld better into my ideas.
The first and second are a lot simpler and have a little more structure that I thought could play off of my messy idea a little better. They also are simplistic in their color schemes.

(only uses two colors)

(only uses three colors)

So here is my comp of what I came up with. I went with a simple layout and bright colors that contrast well (similar to his). I wanted to have kind of a type vibe to the saying while still being about couch potato's...if it doesn't make sense let me know.

Also note the silhouette... I liked how Seb Lester did the silhouettes in his and took inspiration off of that. I tried to give the guy a "plumper" look about him by adding some rolls and chins etc. I think this could still use some refining.

Derrick Williams type project

my artist is yulia brodskaya and i wanted to do something that she had done but i took her idea and did this, this is not the final but i will touch it up more.

Katie Poloni

Nate Williams uses a lot of handrawn type. I really like that in some of his images he uses the type to create a shape with it. I was thinking of doing something like and making it into the trunk of a tree. Here's a sketch of that:
I also made a mockup for another idea I had. He sometimes put a simple illustration next to a phrase and, this is just a digital sketch, of course it would be hand drawn, but the basic idea of the layout of the poster I would make if I went that way.

Hollingworth

I have artist Paul Hollingworth. The picture above is one of a series of ink with metal type photographed in water. I want to achieve the same feel through smoke and lettering.

Daniel Jewel's Casanova

Okay, so this is what I have so far. It's more of the concept than a piece that needs polishing (it needs carving). My designer is Pete Harrison. The first image posted is a work that he has done and is what I'm taking inspiration from. The one after is mine. Kim and Dan, please give me some feed back. I know it's no much now, because most of it is detailing in Photoshop, something that will take me longer than putting the comp together. I plan to repost my most up to date version late this evening.

The newest version at 10 PM:

Here are my sketches:

My designer is Colin Lee. He did the Dulce & Gabana poster. I wanted to try to capture the same pencil sketchy quality, but instead of the leafy decoration on his letters I wanted to do roots and stems. I am including my sketches and the original source.
